A place with a lot of tradition and history
The Gastein valley was already settled by the Romans more than 2000 years ago. Already at that time the healing power of thermal water was recognized. In the following centuries, the Celts engaged in gold mining in Gastein, which brought considerable prosperity to the valley. The name “Gastein” was first mentioned in a document in 1203.
In the course of time, numerous illustrious guests such as Emperor Franz Josef I and his wife Empress Elisabeth, Prince Bismarck, the poets Grillparzer, Schubert and Schopenhauer visited Bad Gastein and gave the Gastein spa the reputation of a modern world spa.
