With our Gschäftl in Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein we would like to bring back a piece of Austrian history a little closer to both the locals and the guests ... namely the "Dorfkrämerei". Here you will find high quality clothing, handmade accessories such as wooden sunglasses, leather bracelets, etc... Not to forget our fine shots and spirits by the Bad Gastein Moonshiners. What is a "Dorfkrämerei"? The name "Kram" originally protected the merchandise of the traveling merchants. Their Kram-merchandise was regarded as high quality and referred to as "kræmel", i.e. "gifts", as they did not correspond to the conventional range, but in general included upscale necessities or products from the long-distance trade with the Orient, i.e. silk fabrics. The Kram-merchants enjoyed a high social status, which is reflected in its name "Krâmermeister" (master), that indicates the head of a professional guild. A small, cramped business with a diverse range, even when located in a building, is often also referred to as "Kramladen" (general store).
