Bad Gastein in the Salzburger Land is captivating with its historical town centre which is marked by the majestic facade of the Belle Époque. The Gastein Valley was inhabited more than 2000 years ago by the Romans. The healing powers of the thermal waters were recognised even then. In the following centuries the Celts practised gold mining in Gastein which contributed to the affluence of the valley. The name "Gastein" was first mentioned in a charter in the year 1203.
Over time many illustrious guests have visited Bad Gastein and popularised the Gastein healing baths giving them a worldwide reputation.
